Jarrid and Sylvia Hall presenting DinnerxChange at the 2017 Impact Accelerator Launch

November 9, 2017

DinnerxChange, a program that changes how students connect with parents about their school day, has been honored with the 2017 Tech Collective Entrepreneurship Award.

Tech Collective is Rhode Island’s premiere tech hub that aims to foster technological growth within the state. In partnership with Rhode Island Monthly, Tech Collective honors 15 recipients across 10 categories in their annual Tech10 Awards. Jarrid Hall, co-founder of DinnerxChange, was one of two honorees in the “Entrepreneurship/Startup” award category.

The Founders, Jarrid and Sylvia Hall, developed DinnerxChange in response to their own experiences communicating with their children at the dinner table. They realized that the traditional after-school dialogue of  “How was school today?” “Fine,”  and “What did you do   today?” “Nothing,” is a typical conversation in many households. DxC changes the status quo by providing a platform where students input GABs during their school day (a few words that act as a hint) to help them recall and reflect upon lessons or events from their day that spark conversation with their families after school––whether that might be at the dinner table, in the car en route to practice, or taking a walk. DxC leverages the power of conversation to bridge the gap between school and home, tighten family bonds, help students strengthen their executive functioning in memory recall, and feed the core competencies of social and emotional learning.

DinnerxChange graduated from the 2017 SEG Impact Accelerator earlier this year. During the  accelerator they launched pilots of their program in four Rhode Island schools, were finalists in the Blended and Personalized Learning Conference 2017 Pitchfest, and continued to develop the DxC progam, app, and website.

“DinnerxChange’s platform addresses an important need for students with executive functioning challenges and their parents. The team’s personal journey and dedication is emblematic of the social entrepreneur’s journey,” mentioned Emily Wanderer, SEG’s Director of Programs.

Award recipients will be honored at the 2017 Tech10 Awards, which will be held on Thursday, November 16 from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Squantum Auditorium in East Providence. To purchase tickets to the event, visit www.tech10awards.com.
