Providence, November 28––SEG hosted a night of food, fun, and recognition for their network of advisors on the evening of Wednesday, November 8th.

SEG boasts a network of over 250 advisors who volunteer their time and expertise to mentor SEG’s network of social enterprises. Advisors come from many backgrounds––they are business people, bankers, consultants, and chief executives; they’re lawyers and doctors; they’re also engineers, scientists, professors, and beyond who have varying competencies and expertise––including the military and even public radio. Of course, regardless of their backgrounds and past experiences, plenty are entrepreneurs and founders themselves.

In many ways, SEG’s advisors are the driving force behind SEG’s services. They go above and beyond to coach and advise entrepreneurs, facilitate workshops, and host office hours to help social entrepreneurs build, scale, and maximize their impact in Rhode Island and beyond.

At the end of the evening, a few advisors were presented with awards to honor their standout achievements. These advisors have put in tremendous work to ensure that SEG’s ventures have access to the tools and advice they need to be successful.

  • Impact Advising Award: Scot Jones, GroovPin
  • Food Advising Award: Kaitlyn Roberts, Easy Entertaining
  • Health and Wellness Award: Tom Hutchinson, QRE MedTech LLC
  • Water, Energy and Environment Award: Tim Gleason, EPA

In 2017 alone, SEG’s advisors have supported over 208 ventures, which have helped create positive social impact in educational opportunities, training and employment, healthcare, financial services, healthy food, basic human needs, affordable housing, a safe and healthy environment, and more. It’s no secret why SEG CEO Kelly Ramirez calls the advisor network SEG’s ‘secret sauce.’
