It’s getting dark at 4 pm, the Canada Geese are flying south, and we can no longer deny it: the Holiday season approaches. It’s nearly time for gift-giving, and shopping guides abound. Here at SEG, we like to add a bonus to our gifting! We are lucky to know some great local businesses that have a social mission.
Let’s start with cards:

Tisinal is a site that features a plethora of local and/or artisanal food producers. I’ll be asking for a maple cube and a jar of Mesa Fresca Chimichurri sauce.
Pickles make a great gift for some people, but Fox Point Pickling Company has great schwag, too. I ordered their beautiful T. Rex print, and I’m eyeing their pickle pops as stocking stuffers.
The P-Knot could be useful for getting your Holiday stress moving, and makes a nice wellness gift.
I’ll also be asking for a massage this year, and West Side Wellness provides gift certificates.
Do you have a surfer on your list? How about a hand-shaped Spirare Surfboard?
Fair-trade coffee from The Coffee Exchange will be nice to wake up to on Christmas morning. Or Hanukah morning, or Dia de los Reyes Magos.
For the pet in my life, I like this upcycled dog leash from Green Envy Eco-Boutique in Newport. (And a bone, of course.)
Ivory Ella is a new social enterprise here in Rhode Island. They’re located in Westerly, and they support wildlife conservation for elephants. Hip yoga pants with a little elephant on them and a good cause? Yes, please.

She comes from the world of alternative health, running a small herbal business and teaching classes like Critical Thinking for Herbalists and Asking Better Questions.
