Health and Wellness Initiative
Although SEG works across industry, we have identified health & wellness as a cluster in which there is great need and opportunity. Challenges in RI include barriers to adequate health care and the 7th highest rate of overdose deaths in the nation. In addition, 14% of our population is over the age of 65 (ranking 8th in the nation). At the same time, Rhode Island is home to several leading academic institutions that support students and researchers who continue to explore these challenges.
With the introduction of the Health and Wellness Initiative, we aim to help New England regional health and wellness-focused social enterprises receive the training they need to grow their businesses and make a positive impact on the health of our communities. Thanks to funding from the Department of Labor and Training’s Real Jobs RI initiative, SEG hopes to collaborate with other organizations working in the health and wellness space to support ventures that prioritize the health and wellbeing of our local population.
Health and Wellness Accelerator
Our goal is to provide business acumen training to early to mid-stage do well, do good health businesses. Any type of health and wellness related social enterprise is welcome to apply. The program is 12 weeks long and includes online modules, in-person workshops, and one-on-one coaching.
Our goal is to bring the community together at our monthly events featuring ventures innovating in the health and wellness space. Each month, we host an informal presentation, followed by Q and A with the business. The event provides networking time after the presentations, and the ability to get involved with the ventures that presented. This event provides a platform for health and wellness businesses to speak about what they do and ask for help from the audience.
Early-Stage Customized Coaching
Our goal is to empower and demystify the process for launching new businesses. This service allows health and wellness businesses, specifically those producing a med tech or biotech product, service, or device to speak with a regulatory professional to understand regulatory barriers. This service is also available to early-stage ventures looking to strategize their development approach.
The Huddle provides high potential, later stage social ventures a three-hour strategy session with a group of industry professionals aimed to explore key challenges or opportunities. This is then followed by a pro bono customized consulting engagement.
