Cooperative Impact

Creating an environment that encourages new connections between the makers. Programs to reconnect people with their humanity so they care about people more than profit. As we build a pipeline of inspired community members it organically induces a specific type of new ideas. Rather than productivity tools we think of ways to make the quality of life better for all residing in this great nation. Connecting these budding social entrepreneurs with mentors is an imoprtant step in the process of blending a sustainable revenue model with their community-based idea. Impact investors are waiting in the wings.

In the early stage of developing a social enterprise ecosystem it is easiest to describe it as:

“Local community members who work cooperatively to create business models that tackle social problems like inequality and climate change. Members are assets to one another as they share resources, insight, and advice from respective industries.”

Columbia Business School: The Social Enterprise Program

The mission of the Social Enterprise Program is to advance the understanding of how management can contribute to society and the environment and to develop the next generation of social enterprise leaders. We have traditionally been student-oriented in our efforts, and our program remains first and foremost focused on developing the next generation of social enterprise leaders. In social enterprise, we have taken to heart the School’s vision of connecting research and faculty to real-world practice. The Social Enterprise Program supports a wide range of research activities, related coursework and conferences. The Columbia Business School Social Enterprise Conference is meant to help spark the conversation on driving sustainable change beyond the new millennium. Lastly, the Social Enterprise Program, in conjunction with the School’s Career Management Center and student clubs, provides resources and networks to students pursuing careers in nonprofit, government or nongovernmental organizations, for-profit and nonprofit social ventures, social venture capital firms, and socially responsible business

Society for Benefit Cost Analysis

The Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis (the “Society”), founded in 2007, is an international group of practitioners, academics, and others who are working to improve the theory and application of the tools of benefit-cost analysis. Although these tools have gained wide acceptance in many countries, ongoing work is needed to continue to improve the tools, their application, and the institutional settings in which they are applied.

Benefit-cost analysis (BCA), also known as cost-benefit analysis, aims to inform the decision-making process with specific types of information, namely measures in monetary terms of willingness to pay for a change by those who will benefit from it as well as of the willingness to accept the change by those who will not benefit.

The use of monetary terms provides a common metric. Its purpose is not to price everything, but rather to order choices in a way that informs decision-makers about social factors.

NYU Law and Social Entrepreneurship Association

LSEA was born of a sense among law students that many intractable social and justice problems call for novel approaches that do not fit neatly into the traditional legal field and for which there is no explicit training offered at law schools. At the same time, law students possess many of the talents and skills that make them fertile ground for cultivating new leadership for such initiatives. LSEA aims to arm the legal field with the wherewithal to embark on these crucial new lines of work by being the first to formally explore the application of social entrepreneurship principles to the field of law.
