Based in Providence, Rhode Island, Social Enterprise Greenhouse (SEG) provides the networks, knowledge, and resources to help people launch and grow positively impactful businesses and organizations by offering a broad range of services. Purpose of the RFP
SEG is seeking a qualified communications and public relations firm to develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies and manage all public relations activities. The selected firm will play a critical role in enhancing SEG’s visibility, reputation, and engagement with stakeholders, including donors, program participants, media, and the broader community.
Scope of Work
The responsibilities of the selected firm will include, but are not limited to:
Content Creation and Management
- Create and oversee an editorial calendar that enhances SEG’s positive reputation, promotes its work, and expands visibility.
- Produce a monthly email newsletter with program updates, success stories, and event highlights.
- Develop quarterly donor and board updates.
- Create email campaigns for events and program promotion, with compelling subject lines, personalized messaging, and calls to action.
- Design print and digital communication materials as needed, including program outreach and
marketing materials, infographics, and SEG’s annual impact report.
Social Media Management
- Manage SEG’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, BlueSky) and maintain a detailed social media calendar.
- Create 15-18 static posts and 2-3 short-form video stories/reels per month.
- Engage with followers to build awareness and a positive image of SEG.
- Monitor social media conversations, identify opportunities, and address concerns.
- Analyze metrics to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and report findings monthly.
Media Relations
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, positioning SEG as a subject matter expert.
- Generate press releases and media advisories to promote SEG’s milestones, activities, and news.
- Identify and pitch newsworthy stories to media outlets (approximately 2 pitches per month).
- Provide on-the-record support as SEG’s spokesperson and respond to media inquiries.
- Develop and implement crisis communication plans to manage responses to negative publicity.
- Utilize media monitoring tools to track and measure the effectiveness of communications efforts relative to established KPIs.
- Present findings and recommendations to SEG’s team quarterly.
Strategic Communications
- Conduct monthly strategic counsel sessions with the CEO, providing ongoing advice on public positioning and media engagement.
- Provide thought partnership on development of articles and op-eds.
- Provide strategic communication support for SEG’s events, including speechwriting and media training.
- Plan and execute press conferences, media tours, and other special events.
Proposal Requirements
Interested firms should include the following in their proposals:
- Firm Overview: Description of the firm, including size, location, and areas of expertise.
- Relevant Experience: Examples of previous work with nonprofits or social enterprises, specifically in communications and public relations.
- Proposed Approach: Outline of the proposed strategy and process for fulfilling SEG’s requirements.
- Key Personnel: Resumes or bios of team members who will work on SEG’s account.
- Budget: Detailed budget with cost breakdowns for services and deliverables.
- References: Contact information for at least three references from similar engagements.

- Submission Deadline: December 13, 2024
- Interviews with Finalists: December 16-18, 2024
- Selection Notification: December 23, 2024
- Contract Start Date: January 1, 2025

Evaluation Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated based on:
- Demonstrated understanding of SEG’s mission and goals.
- Relevant experience and expertise in social impact business communications.
- Creativity and innovation in proposed strategies.
- Cost-effectiveness of the proposal.
- References and client feedback.
